Professor of Psychology
Director
Early Development Laboratory

Angeline Lillard studies how children develop, with a focus on educational environments that allow all children to reach their full potential. Much of her research has focused on play, which led her to Montessori education. Her research finds that children of color and lower income children flourish in Montessori, and because of this her Montessori Science Program  is working in partnership with the UVA Equity Center and City of Promise to help make Montessori an option for the entire Charlottesville community. She is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Psychological Science, and the American Psychological Association.
