Gretchen Martinet

Associate Professor, General Faculty and Director of Undergraduate Programs
Department of Statistics

Gretchen Martinet is actively involved in statistics education and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion work. Her previous role in industry focused on the practical application of sampling and survey methods, balancing practical needs and theory. She teaches several courses, including STAT 4220: Applied Analytics for Business, which focuses on statistical methods and techniques that can be applied in a business context, and on ethical considerations of data, analytic methods, and results. A large component of this course is a partnership with small, local non-profits for the semester-long project to address data-related business problems of interest to the organization. Through this collaboration, students learn about the non-profit's work and the people they serve directly from the Executive Director(s) and gain experience applying statistical methods in practice while providing information and insights that the organization may not have otherwise had the resources to access.
