Matthew Burtner Co-Directs UVA’s Coastal Future Conservatory, which integrates arts and humanities into the investigation of climate-based coastal change. Working with scientists at the Virginia Coast Reserve, an NSF-supported Long-Term Ecological Research site, the Conservatory aims to deepen understanding and stimulate imagination by opening ways to listen to the dynamics reshaping coasts. Burtner’s work has been showcased globally, and Burtner earned an Emmy Award in 2020 for a feature on his Glacier Music by Alaska Public Media. Burtner is also Founder and Director of the non-profit organization EcoSono.
