Michael Lyons researches the mechanisms and practices in school settings that promote student well-being and school-relevant outcomes through an ecological model. He serves as Associate Director for Research and Equity at YouthNex and the Co-Director of the Virginia Partnership for School Mental Health (VPSMH). Collectively, his work focuses on supporting schools and communities to understand, and respond to, rising youth mental health needs. Lyons and his colleagues in the School of Education—Professors Julia Taylor and Natoya Haskins—were selected for the UVA 2024 Collaborative Excellence in Public Service Award for their work in shaping and implementing the VPSMH.
