Batten Philanthropy

Across multiple classes in the Frank Batten School of Leadership & Public Policy, we've given away $635,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations, mostly in the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Student ambassadors have also won national competitions to bring an additional $75,000 in grants to local community agencies. We use a workshop-style class where students learn about the critical work of NGOs by reviewing grant applications, assessing the scope of problems, evaluating the capacity of nonprofit agencies, and crafting gifts. Our funding comes from a series of grants made by the Philanthropy Lab and the Adiuvans Relief Fund.
