Community Writing Collective

The Community Writing Collective draws together different dialects, genres, and languages to create meaning for the reader. In that way, writing necessarily transgresses boundaries designed to separate, draw distinction, and exclude. To write is to imagine an alternative to the present. Writing Builds Writing builds potential communities out of language and offers an alternative set of possibilities for individuals as well as communities. Thus, writing is a necessary tool to build the structures and systems that can ensure equity for those too often on the wrong side of privilege. Writing Acts Writing persuades. It builds commitment to a set of ideas within individuals and, by doing so, turns latent communities into active networks. Writing helps to change who has power. Everyone is a Writer We believe everyone is a writer. Everyone has the power to use language to transgress boundaries, build communities, and inspire action. We hope to use this site to highlight the voices of individuals and communities from whom we can all learn not only about the craft of writing, but its power to create the inclusive and equitable culture in which we all hope to exist.
